Advantages of the wired network

Reliability and stability: Wired networks are generally more stable and reliable. When you are physically connected to the Internet (not Wi-Fi) the chance of losing the connection or experiencing communication problems is much lower. Signal interference does not impair stability, nor do physical interference such as walls or nearby objects

Visibility: A wired network is not visible to other wired networks, so there is no interference to the connection, and at the same time the network nodes still communicate with other network nodes to facilitate efficient data transfer/storage in the network

Speed: Wired networks are usually much faster than wireless networks. In buildings where there are concrete walls or other obstructions to wireless signals, the physical connections will be much faster and more reliable. A wired network is also much faster given that it won’t be slowed down by external/unexpected traffic. Unauthorized users cannot connect to the network unless their device is connected via an Ethernet cable

Security: With the protection of firewalls and other security devices, a wired network is widely protected. Daily business operations are performed using proper ports, network monitoring and wired connection with security technologies

Cost: The hardware required for a wired network often has a longer life cycle than a wireless network. Less hardware may be needed which can reduce the cost.

Disadvantages

Lack of mobility: A wired network creates an environment where you cannot pick up your laptop and move to another location in the workspace. You have to work where there is an internet connection point. This can make it very difficult to collaborate with colleagues

Installation: Installing a network can be a much longer process and in an ideal world it is already done at the beginning of construction. Not only is the installation process itself time-consuming, but the end-user side of routers, switches, and hubs can also require security and firewall components. If you expand or add an employee, you will need to run cables to the new position so they connect

Maintenance: Maintenance to the physical network server requires continuous attention to maintain connectivity, capacity, storage and workload. You will likely need a full-time infrastructure team to monitor a wired network

Wires: Exposed wiring is unsightly. Unless professionally installed and maintained, your office can become a mess of cables. Exposed wires and cables can be a workplace hazard or accidentally disconnected by office workers/cleaning crews.
